‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’ Trailer: This Ain’t Your Average Medieval Monarch Movie

King Arthur Legend of the Sword Trailer - Charlie Hunnam

Taking on the difficult task of opening the weekend after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Warner Bros. Pictures will attempt to wage war at the box office with their medieval action epic King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. Initially, I only had a passing interest in this project from director Guy Ritchie, but this most recent trailer for the movie starring Charlie Hunnam as the titular king has officially piqued my interest. It’s like the fantasy action of Lord of the Rings mixed with the style of Sherlock Holmes with some Gladiator thrown in there for good measure, including Djimon Hounsou in the cast.

Watch the new King Arthur Legend of the Sword trailer after the jump.

The action looks quite stylish for a movie set during medieval times with just enough of Guy Ritchie’s flair to make it feel fresh. This also seems to be embracing the fantasy side of the myth of King Arthur much more than previous adaptations, especially when you see hints of what Jude Law can do as the villainous Vortigern, who is responsible for killing Arthur’s father, King Uther Pendragon (Eric Bana).

Astrid Bergès-Frisbey (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) also stars in the film, however, there seems to be some confusion as to who she is playing lately. Initial casting reports had her landing the role of Guinevere, but all the official marketing materials have her listed as “The Mage” now. Maybe they’re one in the same? Otherwise, the cast also includes Aiden Gillen as Goosefat Bill.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword is in theaters May 12.

Acclaimed filmmaker Guy Ritchie brings his dynamic style to the epic fantasy action adventure “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.” Starring Charlie Hunnam in the title role, the film is an iconoclastic take on the classic Excalibur myth, tracing Arthur’s journey from the streets to the throne.

When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy…whether he likes it or not.

Jason Momoa is set to star as Aquaman in the upcoming Warner Bros. film, and today a video hit Instagram showing some of his preparation for the role. Momoa is no stranger to action scenes, having played the warrior Khal Drogo in the HBO series Game of Thrones and having starred in Conan the Barbarian. The film, based on the DC character, is giving us a very different look at the King of Atlantis. Momoa recently joked about being teased for playing the character which has often been derided by comic book fans.

The Instagram video posted by user doordie shows Momoa and a few other men battling with wooden sticks. The post mentions sword skills, though Aquaman is usually seen with a trident. The rehearsal took place at stunt company 87eleven Action Design, which has worked on films like John Wick 2Expendables 3The Hunger Games and Jurassic World. It was started by John Wick directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch. Aquaman will reportedly begin filming this coming summer.

Aquaman also stars Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Orn, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Temuera Morrison as Aquaman’s human father, and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko. The character was first introduced to the live-action DC Cinematic Universe in a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and will next be seen in Justice League, which hits theaters on November 17, 2017. Aquaman will be released on October 5, 2018.

These GoPros Captured a Sword Fight from the POV of the Sword

Have you ever wondered what a samurai sword sees when it’s slicing melons in half?

The guys over at Corridor Digital are quickly becoming the masters at doing the coolest things with GoPros. First, they mounted a HERO5 Session to the tip of an arrow, then they shot one out of a high-pressure air cannon, and now they’ve decided to mount some HERO5s to different spots on a katana and slice through a bunch of watermelons. The final stitched-together-slo-mo footage is pretty awesome! Check it out below:

Watching videos shot from a GoPro mounted onto a sword is entertaining in its own right, but Corridor Digital took it a step further by mounting two GoPros near the handle of the katana. What this did was allow the team to create a panoramic view of all of the slicing and dicing, which enabled them to not only capture the actual cut, but the debris that followed as well.
