Jason Aldean surprises ‘SNL’ with Tom Petty ‘Won’t Back Down’ tribute to Las Vegas

Saturday Night Live has always taken great care to strike the right tone after tragedy, and this week’s episode managed to delicately address a terrible week on multiple levels, but with a single, thoughtful stroke.

Instead of a cold open mocking the Donald Trump administration — breaking what must have been some kind of record streak — the first face we saw was that of country singer Jason Aldean, about to make his first public performance since leaving the stage last Sunday as the shooting rampage in Las Vegas began last Sunday night.

Nicole Kidman really, really doesn’t like surprises

TwitterFacebook

Nicole Kidman talked about her impending 50th birthday on the Graham Norton Show on Friday night, and she had a warning for her husband and party-planner-in-chief Keith Urban.

“I actually break out in a coldsore if I have a surprise,” says Kidman. Urban says he has a lot of stuff planned, but he’s aware of her dislike of surprises.

“I did have a surprise party once when I was 30 and it was so shocking to me because people had come from overseas and they’d set it all up and people walked in and I broke out in a coldsore […] Like, on the spot,” she said.

Kidman explained that she had been speaking on the phone to her father who said her mother was “in the garden” in Australia, but moments later she walked into a room in Montana, U.S. Read more…

‘The LEGO Batman Movie’ Cast List Reveals Some Surprises

the lego batman movie cast list 3

Like The LEGO Movie, we should expect some cameos and surprises from The LEGO Batman Movie. A week before the animated film opens in theaters, a cast list has hit the net revealing a few participating actors previously unreported. There are more than a few well-known actors and (LEGO) characters namechecked.

If you don’t mind ruining some surprises for yourself, then see who else is a part of The Lego Batman Movie cast below.

The LEGO Batman Movie is about the deeply insecure, crime-fighting loner (Will Arnett) struggling with the new son in his life, Robin (voiced by Michael Cera). Chris McKay‘s film — which he describes as part Michael Mann, part About a Boy — features The Joker (Zach Galifianakis), Batgirl (Rosario Dawson), Harley Quinn (Jenny Slate), Two-Face (Billy Dee Williams), and Alfred Pennyworth (Ralph Fiennes).

If you’re curious what other DC heroes and villains we might see in the movie, Comic Book Movie.com found out. For starters, Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are returning to voice Clark Kent/Superman and Hal Jordan/Green Lantern. Zoë Kravitz is voicing Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Doug Benson is voicing Bane, Adam DeVine is voicing Barry Allen/The Flash, Riki Lindhome is voicing Pamela Isley/Poison Ivy, Kate Micucci is voicing Basil Karlo/Clayface, and, best of all, Jason Mantzoukas is voicing Dr. Jonathan Krane/Scarecrow and — spot on casting — Conan O’Brien is voicing Edward Nygma/The Riddler.

There are other cameos from characters we’ve seen in some other Warner Bros. movies. Voldemort is in The LEGO Batman Movie, and Eddie Izzard voices his LEGO. Seth Green is voicing King Kong, while Jemaine Clement is credited as Sauron. The Unbreakable Kimmy Shmidt‘s Ellie Kemper is voicing “a mysterious woman named Phyllis.”

We already knew we’d see some of the DC characters listed above, but there’s still a few roles we don’t know the voices behind. McKay wanted to go all out and used an exhausting amount of Batman characters, no matter how famous they are. In addition to LEGO Riddler and Catwoman, we’ll also see Penguin, Gentleman Ghost, Calendar Man, the Condiment King, and others in The LEGO Batman Movie.

Here’s the official synopsis:

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made The LEGO Movie a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble—LEGO Batman—stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

The LEGO Batman Movie opens in theaters February 10th.

VOTD: Nicolas Cage Surprises the Audience at Alamo Drafthouse’s “C4GED” Marathon

Nicolas Cage Marathon Appearance

Nicolas Cage is undoubtedly one of the most unique talents working in Hollywood today. Sadly, he’s been spending his time making some pretty terrible movies as of late. At the very least those movies feature Nicolas Cage bringing his eccentric acting style to the screen, and sometimes that’s entertaining enough.

The folks at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, TX have been paying tribute to Nicolas Cage for a few years now with their C4GED marathon celebrating the actor’s birth month with a batch of his movies on the big screen. Each year they invite Nicolas Cage so they can sing “Happy Birthday” to him, but he never showed up. But that changed this year at C4GED 4-EVER, the fourth and final iteration of the event.

Watch Nicolas Cage marathon appearance below.

C4GED has been one of the Alamo’s most popular screening events in the past few years, featuring five Nicolas Cage movies that are kept secret until they are played in the theater. Cage has been aware of the event for awhile, and he almost made an appearance in 2016, but his schedule didn’t allow it. At the time he promised the audience that if the marathon was programmed for another year, he would definitely make an appearance.

Cage actually did something even more special than just showing up since he programmed the line-up of film himself. This year he gave fans Bangkok Dangerous, Joe, Bringing Out the Dead, Army of One and Lord of War, and he even sat in the theater to watch them all with his most loyal fans.

If you’d like even more from this awesome surprise, check out the 47-minute Q&A from the event here:

Say what you will about Nicolas Cage, but this is just awesome.
