Vanessa Hudgens and Annaleigh Ashford have joined Jennifer Lopez in the rom com Second Act
Vanessa Hudgens (High School Musical, Grease Live!) and Annaleigh Ashford (American Crime Story, Masters of Sex) have joined the cast of the upcoming Jennifer Lopez (Out of Sight, Maid in Manhattan)-led romantic comedy Second Act, according to Deadline. Peter Segal will direct the film, which was developed by STX with Lopez from an idea conceived by Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Justin Zackham. Leah Remini (The King of Queen, Kevin Can Wait) is also cast in the film. The STXfilms has cast Vanessa Hudgens in the role of Zoe, a young executive at the Big Box store the film is set in, and Annaleigh Ashford will play the role of Hildy. Hudgens tweeted about being excited to start filming with a pic of herself and Lopez. You can check it out below.
Second Act is a romantic comedy in the vein of Maid In Manhattan, which also starred Lopez, and the comedy classic Working Girl. When a Big Box store employee, played by Lopez, reinvents her life and her lifestyle, she gets the chance to prove to Madison Avenue that street smarts are as valuable as a college degree, and that it is never too late for a Second Act. Leah Remini will play the role of “Joan,” Lopez’s best friend and fellow Big Box employee from Queens.
Written by Justin Zackham (The Bucket List, the FX Series Lights Out) and Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, the project will be produced by Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Jennifer Lopez, Justin Zackham and Benny Medina.

After just eight days in release, WB and New Line’s It became the highest grossing September release of all-time, two days later it added another $ 40 million to that total for an impressive $ 60 million second weekend and nearly $ 220 million in just ten days. The horror film’s performance vastly overshadowed the weekend’s two new wide releases that saw Lionsgate and CBS Films’s American Assassin deliver respectable results in second place while Paramount’s release of Darren Aronofsky’s moth…

“When I receive orders, I assign them. And you kill.” Well Go USA has unveiled another official trailer for the badass Korean action film The Villainess, which opens in select theaters (NY & LA) this weekend. So if you think this looks good, you can see it now! We’ve written about this film before and featured a trailer a few months ago. Ok-bin Kim stars as Sook-hee, a trained assassin who tries to become a stage actress after giving 10 years of service as an assassin. But her dark past comes creeping back and she must take things into her own hands to finish her work and be free once and for all. The full cast includes Eun-ji Jo, Seo-hyung Kim, Ha-kyun Shin, and Jun Sung. This trailer is packed full of intense action and quotes from critics, and will leave you more than excited to see this. I’m looking forward to catching it sometime soon. ›››

After the dust settled, it wasn’t much of a fight. Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk finished atop the weekend box office for the second week in a row with Sony’s new animated feature, The Emoji Movie, settling for second place. The weekend’s other new wide release was Focus Features’ Atomic Blonde, which fell a little short of expectations. Universal’s R-rated comedy Girls Trip, however, had a stellar second weekend, finishing in third place with over $ 20 million, delivering on the promise of i…

At $ 198 million and slowing dramatically, the last Michael Bay-directed installment in the robot franchise won’t come close to matching its predecessor’s big $ 330 million China total in 2014.
“Let’s just do our best not to cramp each other’s style.” Open Road Films has debuted a full trailer for the comedy Home Again, the feature directorial debut of young filmmaker Hallie Meyers-Shyer. This amusing original Hollywood comedy is about a recently divorced woman who moves back home to Los Angeles with her two young daughters. She decides to take in three aspiring filmmaker boys who share her place with her, and disrupt things in both helpful ways and troubling ways. Reese Witherspoon stars, with Michael Sheen, Lake Bell, Candice Bergen, Nat Wolff, Jon Rudnitsky, Pico Alexander, P.J. Byrne. There is something about this film that is really annoying to me. The first teaser was good, this trailer not so much. ›››

“Everything you believe you know about Okja is a lie.” Netflix has launched a second full-length trailer for Bong Joon Ho’s Okja, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last month to quite a bit of good buzz. The film stars Ahn Seo-hyun as a girl named Mija who befriends a giant pig-hippo-cow creature she calls Okja. When the company that created Okja comes to collect it, Mija goes off on adventure trying to rescue and bring her home. Tilda Swinton is back (from Snowpiercer) in the cast, along with Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Lily Collins, Steven Yeun, Giancarlo Esposito, Devon Bostick, Shirley Henderson, Daniel Henshall, and Choi Woo-shik. I saw this in Cannes and enjoyed it, saying in my review: “Only someone as daring, innovative and skilled as Bong Joon Ho could come up with and pull off a film like this.” ›››

While Universal’s release of The Mummy starring Tom Cruise is the #1 movie worldwide, it fell short of its anticipated mark domestically. The Cruise-led feature had to settle for second place, finishing nearly $ 25 million shy of Wonder Woman’s second weekend, as the DC Comics adaptation enjoyed a #1 finish at the weekend box office for a second week in a row. With an estimated $ 57 million, Warner Bros. and DC Comics’ release of Wonder Woman finished atop the weekend box office for a sec…

“This weekend is about us! We deserve this.” Ugh, here we go again. Universal has released a second trailer for the summer comedy Girls Trip, opening in theaters this July. This wild comedy stars Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith and Tiffany Haddish as a group of friends who decide to take a “girls trip” together. This film also stars Larenz Tate, Mike Colter, Kofi Siriboe, Kate Walsh. The last two trailers for this did not look good, and honestly this one looks even worse. I highly recommend the other four-women-party-comedy movie Rough Night instead (see the latest trailer), if that’s the kind of comedy you’re looking for this summer. Because this seriously does not look funny at all. Not even worth watching. ›››
