A Chicago financial advisor, who has been quietly laundering money for a drug kingpin, must quickly uproot his family and move the operation to The Ozarks, after his partner is caught cheating the business. There, he bumps heads with both a local drug dealer whose business he inadvertently interrupts, and a clan of ruffians, led by their 19-year-old niece, who want his money, all the while avoiding the eye of a tenacious FBI agent. He must complete his laundering, to save the life of his family, as they struggle to find their own path in this seemingly foreign way of life.

The Netflix original series Ozark stars Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, Sofia Hublitz, Skylar Gaertner, Julia Garner, Jordana Spiro, Jason Butler Harner, Esai Morales, Peter Mullan and Lisa Emery. Ozark is directed by Jason Bateman, Daniel Sackheim, Ellen Kuras and Andrew Bernstein.

The series is produced by Patrick Markey, and executive produced by Jason Bateman, Chris Mundy, Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams. Ozark is a production of Media Rights Capital and Aggregate Films.

Ozark debuts on Netflix on July 21.

Ozark Clip: There’s a Good Reason Not to Call the Police

Watch an Ozark clip. The Ozark clip lets you know why it's not always a good idea to call the cops.

Bateman, who also serves as an executive producer and director on Ozark, stars as Marty Byrde with Linney playing his wife, Wendy. The Byrdes and their teenage kids, Charlotte and Jonah, are, for all intents and purposes, an ordinary family with ordinary lives. Except for the job of Marty, a Chicago financial advisor who also serves as the top money launderer for the second largest drug cartel in Mexico. When things go awry, Marty must uproot his family from the skyscrapers of Chicago and relocate to the lazy lake region of the Missouri Ozarks.

This dark drama, which also stars Esai Morales (Chicago P.D., NYPD Blue), Julia Garner (The Americans, We Are What We Are), Marc Menchaca (Homeland, Generation Kill), Jason Butler Harner (Ray Donovan, Alcatraz) and Harris Yulin (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, 24), explores capitalism, family dynamics and survival through the eyes of (anything but) ordinary Americans.

Bateman, who previously helmed the feature films Bad Words and The Family Fang, himself directs the Ozark pilot.

Created by Bill Dubuque (The JudgeThe Accountant), the series premieres on July 21 on Netflix with 10 hourlong episodes.
