Inside Xbox’s sleepover pop-up, where gamers can play all night long

TwitterFacebook

You’ve probably spent your weekends hogging the game console at the local mall while growing up, much to the chagrin of your parents.

Xbox, who isn’t your mother, doesn’t care. It wants you to play all day long, and all night for a lucky few, in its Stay N’ Play pop-up in Sydney, Australia.

Launching on Friday, the pop-up will be open for walk-ins 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. until Sunday for hours of “unhindered” gaming action, because you’re an adult who can do whatever the hell you like with your time now.

There’s 4K TVs, Dolby Atmos enabled headsets, and of course a full selection of games to help you pour all those precious hours down the drain.  Read more…

Pixar Pier Details Revealed: Incredicoaster, Inside Out Land, RIP Cove Bar, Opening Date

pixar pier

At D23 Expo 2017, Disney Parks and Resorts announced that Paradise Pier in Disneyland Resort’s Disney California Adventure theme park would be transformed into Pixar Pier. Details at the time were non existent, but they hinted that rides would be rethemed to Pixar films, that new restaurants would open up and that there might even be room for new attractions. Now that Disneyland is gearing up for Pixar Fest, we have learned the first details of this new Pixar-themed land.

Pixar Pier Opening Date

Pixar Pier will officially open in Summer 2018. To make way for the new Pixar-themed land, California Screamin’, Ariel’s Grotto restaurant and the Cove Bar, Mickey’s Fun Wheel, Games of the Boardwalk and Sideshow Shirts will close on January 8, 2018. Pixar Pier will open during the limited-time Pixar Fest celebration, which begins April 13, 2018. The celebration will include the new “Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular” fireworks as well as the return of Pixar Play Parade and “Paint the Night” parade, and more to be announced.

When Pixar Pier opens along the southern shore of Paradise Bay, with newly themed attractions, foods and merchandise throughout. This new, permanent land in the area that is now Paradise Pier will introduce four new neighborhoods representing beloved Disney·Pixar stories.

The four neighborhoods will be themed around the following three Pixar movies: The Incredibles, Toy Story, Inside Out and a fourth section will “be a celebration of many of your favorite Pixar stories.”

California Screamin' Will Become The Incredicoaster

California Screamin’ Will Become The Incredicoaster

The first of the four themed neighborhoods guests is inspired by The Incredibles and will involve the popular California Screamin’ rollercoaster being transformed into The Incredicoaster. As you can see in the above concept art, the queue building will be rethemed to reflect the mid-century modern house of the superhero family. We can also see a mural on the back wall that looks in the same style as the opening credits sequence.

The ride itself will likely not be any different, although I’m assuming Neil Patrick Harris’ announcement will now become Edna Mode or a character from the films. Disney says that the new version of the ride will include “new character moments and a new look for the ride vehicles.” I don’t look at this as a bad thing as Screamin’ was always a good ride with a poor theme. Hopefully what they add is cool and not just pasted on.

Toy Story Mania Will Remain

The second neighborhood in Pixar Pier will be based around the Toy Story franchise. The popular Toy Story Mania! interactive game attraction will remain, and there is no word on if they will update the ride to reflect any of the new characters being introduced in Toy Story 4 or the recent Toy Story short films.

Pixar Pier inside out neighborhood

Inside Out Will Get A New Family-Friendly Attraction

A neighborhood inspired by the film Inside Out will be found on the western side of the boardwalk and will include a new family-friendly attraction in the expansion pad at the right end of California Screamin. It has been rumored that the ride would be a themed spinner ride, and if you look at the broad concept art you can see that with the colored balls from the movie. The new ride is scheduled to open at a later date, I’m betting in late 2018 or early 2019.

ZZ4FB60668

Mickey’s Fun Wheel Will Remain, But With Pixar Themed Gondolas

In the fourth neighborhood celebrating other Pixar films, Mickey’s Fun Wheel will be given a new look with each of the 24 gondolas featuring different Pixar characters. But don’t worry, the iconic face of Mickey Mouse will remain on the Paradise Bay side of the wheel. The Ferris wheel on the opposite side of the bay has become one of the most iconic landmarks of Disney California Adventure.

The Games of the Boardwalk will be transformed into midway games inspired by Pixar characters. Bullseye Stallion Stampede game will remain.

Ariel’s Grotto Restaurant and the Cove Bar Will Be Rethemed Into A New Lounge And Grill

Ariel’s Grotto restaurant and the Cove Bar will be transformed into a “new lounge and grill offering sparkling views of Paradise Bay and the new Pixar Pier.” This is probably the only thing in this transformation that I am personally concerned (and possibly angry) about. I, like many of you, love The Cove Bar. I really hope Disney doesn’t mess with what made it great. Please keep the Lobster Nachos, the themed alcohol drinks, the wings. Please don’t kiddify the one place in DCA where adults could go to enjoy themselves with real alcohol. Please Disney please.

The Cove Bar has been one of the most high demand walk-up food spots in all of Disneyland Resort, so maybe this is a matter of them expanding the options into Ariel’s Gorotto, allowing for more seating and less waiting? Maybe I’m being too hopeful?

Now personally, I never cared for Ariel’s Gorotto, but I know it was one of the only character dining options where kids could meet the princesses, so I wonder what Disney is going to do about that.

The Remaining Areas Will Become Paradise Park

The remaining areas of Paradise Pier, including Paradise Gardens, Silly Symphony Swings, Jumpin’ Jellyfish, Goofy’s Sky School, Golden Zephyr and The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, will become a new land called Paradise Park.

Inside Dolby Cinema: Tour of One of the Most Immersive Movie-Going Experiences Ever

An inside look at how Dolby Cinema aims to give you the absolute best movie-going experience.

Throughout history, movie theaters have evolved to attract new movie-goers. In the 1910s through the 1940s, movie “palaces” were ornately decorated theaters designed to provide patrons with an atmosphere mimicking an outdoor courtyard, complete with facades, fauna, and projectors called Brenograph that projected clouds and stars onto the ceiling.

Even though more modern cinemas don’t look anything like they did a century ago, theater owners still strive to give movie-goers a unique and immersive experience, whether it’s with the snacks and food, 3D, or stadium seating. Dolby Laboratories is one company that is aiming to take theater audio and visuals to places it has never been before, and the team over at RocketJump Film School got to take a tour of Dolby Headquarters based in San Fransisco to learn more about its premium cinema concept, Dolby Cinema.

‘BoJack Horseman’: An Inside Look at How the Show Makes Us Cry Over an Animated Horse

Director and animator Anne Walker Farrell discusses the challenges and mechanics of convincingly bringing a horse-man to life.

In the world of cinema, there are many filmmakers who will tell you that comedy is the absolute most difficult thing you can do. Evoking a laugh from audiences is nearly impossible. Other filmmakers will claim that good drama is the toughest thing to create. After all, getting people to buy into the lives of strangers for two hours is no easy task. But what about combining the two? Apparently, you should only try if you’re putting together an animated show about a world where anthropomorphic animals live alongside humans in peace.

BoJack Horseman is the story of a washed-up sitcom-star who now struggles to find his way in life as he battles through depression, anxiety, and issues of identity. It’s one of television’s most poignant shows, and it has the ability to make you sob in pain and laugh out loud within the smallest time frame in a way that no other show can.

We finally know what the inside of Tesla’s Model 3 looks like, and it’s stunning

TwitterFacebook

The wait is finally over.

After months of hype and anticipation, Tesla has finally given us our first peek at the interior of the Model 3 and, well, it was worth the wait.

The interior is every bit as sleek and minimalist as we expected. The most prominent feature is the 15-inch digital display, which has more of a landscape orientation than Tesla’s other cars. Note that, as Musk confirmed to a disappointed Tesla fan earlier this year, there is no speedometer (or any kind of gauge, for that matter) behind the wheel.

Close observers will notice that there are very few buttons or controls of any kind, which makes sense considering Tesla’s autopilot ambitions. Read more…

First Trailer for Trapped Inside a Shark Cage Movie ’47 Meters Down’

47 Meters Down Trailer

“How deep are we?” “47 meters.” “I’m so scared!” Another scary shark horror movie? Why not! A trailer has debuted online for a film titled 47 Meters Down, about two sisters who are trapped inside a shark cage at the bottom of the ocean. This seems just a little bit freakier than The Shallows, considering they’re trapped underwater, inside a shark cage, with only so much oxygen left before they run out. Mandy Moore and Claire Holt star, with a cast including Matthew Modine, Yani Gellman, and Santiago Segura. This looks exactly like you would expect – there’s no surprises here. I’m curious if they’ll keep the “47 Meters” title for America, since most aren’t familiar with meters, but it works (and FYI, 47 meters = 154 feet). Enjoy. ›››

Inside Marvel Studios: Explore the Future of the MCU

Take a trip inside Marvel Studios! CS got a Marvel Studios tour!

CS got a sneak peek inside Marvel Studios and a tease of what’s to come

“SERPENT SOCIETY?” reads a note scribbled rather conspicuously across a whiteboard at Marvel Studios’ usually top secret offices. “ASAP!”

That’s Marvel having a bit of fun with a small group of journalists who were invited to take an inside look at what goes into building their rapidly expanding cinematic universe. A Captain America: The Serpent Society movie was teased nearly three years ago when it appeared on the Marvel Studios calendar during a “Phase Three” presentation. It was quickly revealed, however, that the title was just a placeholder so that the announcement of Captain America: Civil War could close things out with a bang. While we’re probably still not going to see Chris Evans facing off against snake-themed supervillains anytime soon, Marvel Studios did show off some tantalizing glimpses at upcoming films like Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Ant-Man and the Wasp and Captain Marvel!

RELATED: Star-Lord and Gamora Cut a Rug in New Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Clip

Housed in the Frank G. Wells building on the Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, California, the Marvel Studios offices are filled with props and costumes from every film in the MCU. An Iron Man armor display at the entrance mimics Tony Stark’s lab while movie art wraps entire walls with different designs celebrating every inch of the big screen MCU. A massive comic book library is available on the premises. While Marvel Studios productions take place all over the world, it’s here that each one begins.

Led by Marvel producer Jonathan Schwartz, the Marvel Studios tour began in a room where, on couches surrounding a large table (upon which currently sits a life size model of Baby Groot), ideas are bandied about for anything that might be cool to see realized on the big screen. Downstairs, a screening room is used to receive each production’s dailies while also serving the double purpose of helping Marvel Studios scout for talent. Louis D’Esposito told the group that both Cop Car and Boy were screened by he and other Marvel Studios heads prior to hiring Jon Watts and Taika Waititi for Spider-Man and Thor, respectively.

The Black Panther is going to be a huge part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward.

Next year’s Black Panther was teased with concept art, dailies and a sizzle reel wherein Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige promises that T’Challa is going to be a major player in the MCU moving forward. Instantly striking about the Black Panther footage is the film’s use of color. It appears to offer a palette that will rival Guardians of the Galaxy. An extremely technologically advanced nation, Wakanda is depicted as a sort of African Tomorrowland. Among the costumes showcased in the footage were bright red outfits for the Dora Milaje (T’Challa’s team of deadly, female bodyguards) and a bright purple robe for Forest Whitaker’s Zuri.

Chadwick Boseman‘s title hero is getting a new costume for the February 16, 2018 release. Concept artist Ryan Meinerding explained to the Marvel Studios tour that director Ryan Coogler wanted a slimmer look than the version seen in last year’s Captain America: Civil War. Although it was glimpsed in the sizzle reel, the costume did not make an appearance in the Black Panther dailies. Those instead focused on a ceremony swearing T’Challa in as King. Boats are seen heading to the coronation at Warrior Falls with Lupita Nyong’o‘s Nakia being aboard one vessel said to belong to a border tribe. Another shot involved her taking down a group of men armed with rifles.

“The Prince will now have the strength of the Black Panther,” says Zuri during T’Challa’s coronation.

Other Black Panther footage included an elaborate car crash and a scene in a casino with both Andy Serkis’ Klaw and Martin Freeman’s Everett K. Ross

“You’ve got quite the entourage,” sneers Ross when Klaw (now with a false hand replacing the one he lost in Age of Ultron) enters with group of thugs. “Have you got a mix tape coming out?”

“Yes!” says Klaw, excited and wholly unaware that Ross is being sarcastic. “I’ll send you the link!”

The Wasp will soon make her full debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The tour was then met by Ant-Man director Peyton Reed, who teased next year’s Ant-Man and the Wasp and showed off concept work from artist Andy Park.

“One of the great things about it for me is that we can sit around during script phase and even before script phase and go, ‘Let’s do this!’ or ‘I have a great idea for a gag!” Reed explained. “We’d sit around and talk about it or I’d do a really crude sketch of an idea.”

Among the Ant-Man and the Wasp images on display was a new Ant-Man/Giant-Man suit.

“There’s a lot of shrinking and growing and it really is the arc of how Ant-Man and Wasp come together as a team,” Reed continued. “…We know that Pym Technologies was destroyed in the first movie. Where is he now? What’s he doing?”

While Reed stressed that none of the art is necessarily representative of anything in the final film, one of the pieces showed off a new lab and others an action figure scale car chase with one of the cars bearing a “PYM 1” license plate. Another image showed one of those same cars caught in the mouth of a proportionately gigantic dog.

“The suits are basically delivery systems for the shrinking and growing technology,” Reed teased. “What if it could be a vehicle or something like that? …One of the things about our movie that’s different and that I love is that all the Ant-Man, Giant Man and Wasp technology is all a product of the Hank Pym character. It has to have a different look than the stuff that Stark designs and that the other characters design.”

Both the Janet Van Dyne Wasp suit and a new Hope Van Dyne Wasp suit were also depicted. The latter (which Reed calls “Wasp 2.0”) appears to be inspired by the comics’ black and gold look. While he didn’t go into specifics, Reed also teased a very different hairstyle for star Evangeline Lily.

“We’ve already done our initial costume fitting with Evangeline and it looks so awesome!” said Reed.

Production is about to begin on the film, but work is already well underway behind the scenes.

“It really does feel like the first ‘Ant-Man’ was an R&D situation where you learn as much what not to do as what to do,” said Reed of bringing the size-shifting heroes to life. “So we are going to have a lot more strange visual stuff going on in this movie… We did a location scout to a secret, undisclosed location that bore a similarity to something we’re doing in the movie.”

Captain Marvel is headed to the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

Alongside the Ant-Man and the Wasp concept art was work that Andy Park did for Captain Marvel. The costume is an almost perfect match for the current comic book design with slightly more metallic colors and some additional jumpsuit texturing. Although it was hinted by Reed that a director may have already been found, Park made clear that the art on display was not necessarily final and that the actual Captain Marvel costume has not yet been constructed. Star Brie Larson has seen the concept art that features her face, however, and she’s a fan.

“Not only have we sent it to her,” Park laughed, “There’s video of her seeing it, which you guys will probably not see anytime soon. But she was super psyched.”

The tour was then greeted by Marvel Studios EP Victoria Alonso and Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi for a look behind the scenes of the November 4 release. Waititi revealed that Korg and Miek, two of the characters from the comics’ “Planet Hulk” storyline, will appear.

Audiences saw a Korg-like creature at the beginning of Thor: The Dark World and Waititi suggested that Korg himself is of a related species.

“He is one of the few characters to befriend Thor on the planet,” he explained. “He helps him out and sort of explains how things go and becomes an ally to Thor. He’s eight feet tall and made of rocks… Being made of rocks, we could have gotten someone like the Rock to play him. But there’s not enough chicken and salmon in Australia to sustain both him and Chris [Hemsworth].”

That’s why Korg is being played (via performance capture) by Waititi himself. Miek, who does not talk, is not played by an actor but is, instead, depicted a larva-like creature who competes in gladiatorial duels on the planet Sakaar with the aide of cybernetic legs and arms. The duels are orchestrated, Waititi said, by Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster in what may or may not be referred to onscreen as a “Contest of Champions”. Apparently, versions with and without the reference to the 1982 inter-company crossover were filmed and Waititi hasn’t decided yet whether it will make the final cut.

Some work in progress footage of the scene where Thor meets Korg was shown with Waititi affecting a nasally, laid back New Zealand accent.

“I tried to start a revolution, but didn’t print enough pamphlets,” Korg sighs about how he wound up getting thrown into the ring. He tells Thor that he only really does the warm-up matches while Thor discovers that the room he’s trapped in is functioning as an infinite circle. When he tries to exit in one direction, he arrives from the other.

“It’s a circle,” says Korg. “A freaky circle.”

The Marvel Studios slate will next see Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 arrive on May 5. On July 7, Tom Holland’s webcrawler returns in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Then, Marvel Studios’ 2017 closes out with November 3rd’s Thor: RagnarokIn 2018, Black Panther hits first on February 16 followed by Avengers: Infinity War on May 4, 2018. Between Infinity War and its follow-up, fans get Ant-Man and the Wasp on July 6, 2018 and Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson, on March 8, 2019. Then Marvel Phase 3 will conclude with the untitled Infinity War follow-up on May 3, 2019.

As always, check back for updates on all Marvel Studios projects as they become available and let us know in the comments below which films you’re looking forward to the most!
