Sony announces release dates for Silver and Black, The Nightingale, and more

Sony Pictures just announced a slew of release date for upcoming films like the Black Cat and Silver Sable Marvel adaptation Silver and BlackThe Nightingale and more.

Silver and Black, which will be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Secret Life of Bees), was originally set to be released in October of 2018. The comic book adaptation will now hit theaters on February 8, 2019. The film will be up against The LEGO Movie 2 that day. There is currently no casting info for the film.

Bad Boys for Life has been pushed back from November 9, 2018 to a to-be-determined date. Director Joe Carnahan (The A-TeamThe Grey) left the project back in May. Will Smith (I Am Legend) has been on the long-gestating project and reportedly spoke to Martin Lawrence (Big Momma’s House) about it. “I saw Martin a few weeks ago,” Smith told BBC 1 in February 2016 (via The Verge). “I haven’t seen him for about two years. We just looked at each other. We hugged. In that moment, we knew we were making another ‘Bad Boys.’ We’re definitely doing another one.”

Will Ferrell (Step Brothers) and John C. Reilly’s (Talladega NightsHolmes & Watson is moving from August 3, 2018 to the original date for Bad Boys for Life, November 9, 2018, putting it in competition with Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

The upcoming Barbie movie was originally going to hit theaters on June 29, 2018 and reportedly changed stars back in July. Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables) is up to replace Amy Schumer (Train Wreck) as the lead and Fun Mom Dinner director Alethea Jones may direct. The film has moved to August 8, 2018, making the date 8/8/18. No word if the odd Wednesday release date means something, but 8’s are awfully curvy…

Game of Thrones and Westworld director Michelle MacLaren’s newest offering The Nightingale has moved from August 10, 2018 to January 25, 2019, a date free from other releases at the moment. Based on Kristin Hannah’s best-selling novel, the film tells the story of two sisters coming of age in France on the eve of World War II, and their struggle to survive and resist the German occupation of France.

The Sicario sequel Soldado has acquired a release date. The film will hit theaters on June 29, 2018 (Barbie‘s original release date) opposite I Feel Pretty and TagSicario 2: Soldado will follow the character Alejandro Gillick, played by Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro. Josh Brolin will also be back as CIA Agent Matt Graver.

‘Pacific Rim Uprising’ Gets a New Release Date

Pacific Rim Uprising Release Date

It turns out that you’ll have to wait a little bit longer to watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega pilot a giant robot so he can punch monsters in the face. Pacific Rim Uprising, the upcoming sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s incredibly entertaining 2013 science fiction adventure, has been pushed back. But just a little bit. A teensy bit.

Deadline reports that Pacific Rim Uprising will now open on March 23, 2017, one month later than the original February 23, 2017 release Universal had set for the film. No official reason has been given for the delay, but it could be any number of things – the filmmakers realized they needed a little more time to finish the movie, marketing research suggested that March is kinder to movies about robots smashing alien monsters, etc. Who knows?

The only peculiar thing about this release date change is that March is a far more crowded month for geek fare like this. Sure, the original release date would have seen Steven S. DeKnight‘s sequel dealing with fallout from Marvel’s Black Panther (which is going to be an enormous hit), but this is very much an “out of the frying pan and into the fire” situation. In its new release date, Pacific Rim Uprising will have to contend with Lionsgate’s new Robin Hood movie before going head-to-head with Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One the following week.

In any case, Universal seems to think they have a potential franchise here. The first film, as fun as it was, underperformed in the United States while making a pretty penny on the international stage. Perhaps this new release date has less to do with the film’s domestic prospects and more to do with positioning it as a global blockbuster. While it’s disappointing to see del Toro no longer in the director’s seat here (The Shape of Water looks preeeeetty good though) DeKnight has proven himself to be a capable force on the small screen, working on shows like Daredevil and the shockingly great Spartacus. I’m very curious to see what this movie looks like and how audiences respond to it.

John Boyega headlines Pacific Rim Uprising as the son of Idris Elba’s character from the first movie. Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Burn Gorman are set to return from the original ensemble, with Scott Eastwood, Jing Tian, Cailee Spaeny, and Adria Arjona joining the line-up. As always, the giant monsters will be played by pixels and many late nights at a visual effects company. You can watch the first teaser for the film right here.

Sharknado 5 Premiere Date and More From Syfy

Sharknado 5 premiere date and more announced by Syfy

Sharknado 5 premiere date and more announced by Syfy

Sharknado 5 premiere date has been announced by Syfy, as well as a number of other shows, including KilljoysDark MatterBlood Drive and Face Off. The Sharknado 5 premiere hits the cable network on Sunday, August 6 at 8 pm, where we’ll see the return of Ian Ziering and Tara Reid as Fin Shepard and April Wexler, battling a tornado full of sharks once again.

Dark Matter will return with its third season on Friday, June 9 at 8 pm with back-to-back episodes and return to its 9 pm time slot the next week. Blood Drive starring Alan Ritchson (Smallville) and Christina Ochoa (Animal Kingdom) will premiere Wednesday, June 14 at 10 pm. The show has them driving across country in a race in cars that are fueled by blood. Face Off season 12 will return on Tuesday, June 13 at 9 pm. Killjoys will premiere on Friday, June 30 at 8 pm.

Sharknado 5, which sees the deadly weather phenomenon of shark-infested storms bombard cities around the world, will film in more than five countries, including the UK and Australia. Anthony C. Ferrante, who directed the first four films, is back to helm this latest installment, based on a script by Scotty Mullen.

The original 2013 Sharknado film, which introduced a cyclone depositing man-eating sharks on the citizens of Los Angeles, became a worldwide phenomenon and spawned a pop culture franchise. In Sharknado 2: The Second One, New York City was the target of the disaster, and in Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!, a mega-sharknado made its way down the “Feast Coast” from Washington, D.C. to Florida. In the most recent installment, Sharknado: The 4th Awakens, the shark-infested storms went national. The film ended with the Eiffel Tower ripping away from Paris and crashing down on Niagara Falls – a chilling indication that no one in the world is safe!

Now, in Sharknado 5, with much of North America lying in ruins, the rest of the world braces for the inevitable – a global sharknado. Fin Shepard and his family must put a stop to this disaster before Earth is completely obliterated.

Are you guys excited for the Sharknado 5 premiere? What other shows are you watching on Syfy? Let us know in the comments or tweet us @ComingSoonnet.
